QLD/NT Franchisee of the Year from Worldwide

Andrew Robertson, Franchisee owner of Worldwide Online Printing centres in Spring Hill and Rowes Arcade, has been awarded Queensland/Northern Territory Franchisee of the Year award for the PricewaterhouseCoopers 2007 Excellence in Franchising Awards.

Robertson is now in the running for National Franchisee of the Year, which will be announced at a prestigious awards night held at the National Franchise and Small Business Convention on Saturday 13 October 2007. Held in conjunction with Franchise Appreciation Week and cooperation with the Franchise Council of Australia, the awards promote business and community recognition of franchising as a major economic and employment generator for Australia.

Robertson said, “I was just so honoured to be nominated by Worldwide for the state awards–when it was announced that I had won, I didn’t know what to say!”

Other winners were Dianne Williams of Lenard’s, who won the PwC QLD/NT Woman in Franchising category, and Mr Rental, which won the Regional Emerging Franchise System of the Year Award

Robertson purchased the Spring Hill Worldwide Online Printing centre in September 2003, after a period as manager, and over the last four years has increased its annual turnover more than fourfold. His Spring Hill centre has three times won national ‘Performance League’ awards for sales growth, and Robertson was a finalist for the 2006 Worldwide Online Printing Franchisee of the Year.

“I’m excited to accept the award on behalf of my team. A huge part of the success of the store is due to their hard work. It’s also a nice recognition of all of the Worldwide centres in Queensland,” he added. “We all rely on each other and work together.”

Robertson explained his secrets for success: “Apart from following the Worldwide system, I think it’s important to have a great team. You need to be fussy when you’re choosing staff and thorough in their training. You need to invest in and value your team.”

“In such a tight labour market, having and keeping great people is definitely a competitive advantage.” It’s been a busy year for Robertson – he and his wife Karen had a baby in March, just a few months before purchasing the Rowes Arcade Worldwide centre in July.

“Owning a franchise is a big commitment, and my wife Karen has been such a fantastic supporter.”
